India 285 for 9 decl (Jaiswal 72, Rahul 68, Mehidy 4-41, Shakib 4-78) and 98 for 3 (Jaiswal 51, Mehidy 2-44) beat Bangladesh 233 (Mominul 107*, Bumrah 3-50) and 146 (Shadman 50, Bumrah 3-17, Jadeja 3-34, Ashwin 3-50) for seven wickets

Bangladesh were trailing by 26 when the day started in 98 overs and it was Ashwin who struck early. After a successful sweep with his unbeaten century in the first innings, Mominul Haque fell to the same milestone when he took the 2nd wicket in the leg. Many would have expected Bangladesh to face the pressure but Shadman responded by following Ashwin’s boundaries. He hit three confident covers and a back-foot for four fours in seven balls against Ashwin which gave Bangladesh confidence and the lead.

A few more deliveries from Mohammed Siraj yielded a few more boundaries; he was hit for two fours each by Shadman and Shanto in his opening over, although one of those was a potential chance but there was no third slip in place.

It is possible that Jadeja was the one who finally got the ball because only left-handed batsmen were on the field until he was sent off. And it took him only two balls to hit. Shanto missed the bounce on his first ball against Jadeja and lost his leg stump before the bowler produced an extra bounce on a pitch that stayed low to have Litton caught behind for 1. In between those two overs, Akash Deep bowled another over to Shadman. soon after the batsman’s half-century, and a push to gully ended his 101-ball stay.

Jadeja was all over Bangladesh now. In his third over he returned the ball to Shakib which was tossed in the air, and Shakib returned it to give Jadeja the figures of 2.2-1-3-3 at the start of his spell.

Seven down on 94, Rohit Sharma brought back Bumrah and the spear rewarded him instantly. His third ball of the new spell was a beauty that left Mehidy Hasan Miraz on edge late on. It was only Mushfiqur Rahim who stopped the visitors from going all out and extended the lead to 100. He saw the pace and belted two back-to-back fours against Jadeja even though it looked like he would run out of partners.

Bumrah bowled Taijul Islam lbw to extend the first session at lunch before Mushfiqur frustrated the hosts. He started plowing the strike with one wicket left but again it was Bumrah who brought success. Having returned one over before lunch, his slow cutter at 125kmh took a huge swing from Mushfiqur in the last ball of the session as he squandered all his hard work in the extended half-hour.

India came out guns blazing again as Bangladesh did not use any pace in search of wickets. Rohit missed a big toss down the leg side in the first over and when he combined the sweep, he found long leg in Mehidy’s second over. Shubman Gill was caught lbw for 6 by Mehidy on a delivery similar to the one kept low and dismissed by Rohit on Monday. Apart from that India went on a run thanks to Jaiswal’s third century in the series. He tightened his punches and his sweep and came down the track to smash several boundaries, including a six, down the stretch. His quick-fire partnership of 58 with Virat Kohli almost got India through except Jaiswal made a mistake swinging on the off side with only three runs needed.
