Rohit Sharma reveals Team India’s ‘gameplan’ after impressive win against Bangladesh in Kanpur Test
Indian captain Rohit Sharma detailed the team’s winning strategy following their comprehensive victory over Bangladesh in the second Test held in Kanpur. The win enabled India to complete a 2-0 sweep of the two-match series, starting their domestic season on a flying note.
Weather challenges in Kanpur Test
The second Test in Kanpur began under challenging conditions, as incessant rain interrupted Day 1, and similar weather on Days 2 and 3 led to play being called off. However, when play resumed on Day 4, the Indian bowlers quickly took over, bowling Bangladesh out for 233 runs in their first innings before putting on a strong show.
India declared their innings after getting 285 runs in just 35 overs, they were able to lead by 52 runs. An early declaration proved to be a strategy, allowing India to attack Bangladesh with the ball again before the close of play on Day 4, where they reduced the visitors to 26/2 with wickets.
Indian bowlers dominate on the final day
Day 5 saw the Indian bowlers wreak havoc as they bowled out Bangladesh for just 146 runs, setting themselves a small target of 95 runs to win. The Indian batsmen chased down the target comfortably, finishing with seven wickets to wrap up the series in style.

Rohit Sharma explains the game plan
Rohit explained that the team had to plan carefully to ensure that the game progressed to a result. On Day 4, their aim was to get Bangladesh out quickly and see how they can capitalize on the batting. The focus was not only on getting runs but on increasing the number of overs they could bowl to Bangladesh.
Despite the field giving little help to the bowlers, the team put in a lot of effort to produce a result. The batsmen were willing to take risks, and the team was determined to give themselves a chance to win.
“To tell the truth, we had to think a lot for the game to move forward. When we got to day four, we wanted to get them out quickly and see what we could do with the bat. It was not about the runs we got but the overs we wanted to bowl. The pitch did not have much for the bowlers but to get the game out of that pitch was a great effort by the bowlers. The batsmen were willing to take risks and we were ready to take a chance on the result,” said Rohit in the post-match presentation.
