Karl-Anthony Towns Shares First Honest Reaction to Knicks Trade
Like the rest of the NBA world, Karl-Anthony Towns was shocked that he was the main piece in the blockbuster trade between the Timberwolves and the Knicks.
There had been rumblings for years that the Knicks might trade KAT, but it was one of those deals that everyone thought would never happen.
But we are here.
“He is shocked,” he told reporters when asked how he first felt about the news. “Shocked. Perhaps the word flabbergasted is more appropriate. I’m just shocked.”
Towns joked about the first thing he did when he got in front of his new teammates, after Jalen Brunson said at media day he didn’t know anyone named Karl — before the trade was official.
“The first thing I did was go up to Jalen and introduce myself, ‘Hello, my name is Karl.’ Because I know that was a struggle for him,” Towns said.
KAT may find the Knicks system easy to adjust to, as he worked under Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau in Minnesota for two and a half years.
“I think it gives us a little bit of a head start,” Towns told reporters. “I know the offense he likes to run. I know how he likes to play defense and what he expects from his players.”
Thibs has been praising KAT and seems excited to work with him again.
“He got a lot of experience. “Now he’s deep into qualifying and he knows what that’s like,” said Thibodeau. “When you try to prepare for something like that, until you go through it, you don’t really understand what it is. His understanding is much further now than his second year in the league. And his skill set is so unique that it fits everyone. “
