Jack Nicklaus Signature Design Courses e has been named the 2024 Michigan Golf Course of the Year by the Michigan Golf Course Association (MGCA).
About Recognition
“I think this is one of the greatest awards a golf course in the state of Michigan can receive,” said Josh Doxtator, PGA General Manager for the course. “Harbor Shores has been a catalyst for the community and tributes like these continue to prove that point and tell our story.”
Jada Paisley, MGCA executive director, said the association is thrilled to announce Harbor Shores as the course of the year. The award recognizes a member’s study that meets four criteria: Distinctive features of the study; exceptional quality of ownership and management; an outstanding contribution to its community; and a great contribution to the game.
Education and social impact
The Harbor Shores development, which opened in 2010, made national news for reclaiming abandoned and blighted industrial land as part of a nonprofit effort. It helped revitalize the area and provide economic growth and sustainable development. Harbor Shores is a non-profit, and a portion of the money raised helps maintain the local trail systems and the beach around Jean Klock Park.
