Expect New York Rangers to Sign Igor Shesterkin Long Term

There’s been a lot of talk about goaltending in the NHL lately. Jeremy Swayman still needs a deal in Boston, and Igor Shesterkin wants an extension with the New York Rangers.

Both guys are doing their part to help reset the goaltending market. The expectation and belief is that Shesterkin wants to be the highest paid goaltender in the NHL. Carey Price has that mark at $10.5 million. He believes he wants between $11 million and $12 million.

So Shesterkin has been focusing on the deadline that has actually been set or may have been set, saying through his agent that he will not negotiate a new contract when the puck drops on the new season, Tuesday, October 8 in North America.

And look, I mean, Swayman needs Shesterkinis’ contract ready to go next week, but we also know about that floating deadline they had when they wanted to do something before they dropped the puck next week.

What do you hear about Shesterkin? I mean, as far as Rangers fans are concerned, if this is going to work out, it’s going to be a long-term deal for Shesterkin somewhere between $11 million and $12 million.

Elliotte Friedman: “I believe it will work. I think the Rangers chose to pay him and for me, it depends on what the numbers are. But until I’m told otherwise, Scotty, I expect them to work. It worked for you. I believe Rangers have chosen us here.”

We know Ranger likes to keep things close to the vest. General Manager Chris Drury wants to keep Shesterkin around long-term, and Shesterkin wants to stay around long-term. But this is business, and the Rangers have to do what’s best for them. At the same time, the player must do what is best for him.

But the idea is that Igor Shesterkin and the New York Rangers will get a long-term extension done.
