What it’s like to hang out with Max Homa, according to the NBA star
Being a PGA Tour player means you get to be associated with some cool company.
Take the 2022 Tour Championship where Max Homa was introduced to former NBA player Blake Griffin.
“He told me the story that I was going to visit his high school classmate,” Griffin told GOLF Subpar hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz on this week’s episode. “I went to visit him in the hospital. He too, was not progressing well and unfortunately died. And I wore one of his bracelets during the game and I had it as a post-game chat.
“He was like, ‘Dude, I don’t know if you remember this, but that kid went to my high school. You know, I knew him growing up and everyone at school thought he was so cool. And it stuck with me forever.’”
That connection quickly connected the two and they went out to dinner that night. Homa had just shot a 62 at East Lake in the second round of the tournament.
“This guy just shot a 64 (sic) in the Tour Championship, and he’s just sitting at dinner, hanging out, talking and like, the meanest person ever,” Griffin said.
At the time, Homa’s wife Lacey was pregnant with the couple’s first child. So when it was time to go, Griffin put his 6-foot-9, 250 lbs frame to good use: Clearing the way so Lacey could find space to get out.
He’s not the only player Griffin has spent time with. He also teamed up with Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa in the Netflix Cup last season in Last Vegas. He and Thomas have been reviewed by the same agency.
