They all play the Titleist Pro V1x golf ball.
A very quick summary of the Pro V1x ball is that it is aimed at those looking for higher ball flight and lower spin for the long game compared to the Pro V1 resulting in increased distance, especially on drives and long iron/fairway wood shots. .
The shape of the ball also helps generate more speed from the clubface, contributing to longer carry while, on the green, one of the most important features is its short game spin.
And in the air, helped by its dimple design, it provides a consistent and stable ball flight making it a good option in challenging conditions.
One of the most obvious comparisons to the Pro V1 is that it has a slightly firmer feel which is a key part of the appeal for Hatton who has played Titleist balls since turning pro.
“It’s a feeling for me. I like the fact that it feels a little rough. It has more clicks on the face. And for me, especially in green areas, that’s a big plus.
More control
“I feel like I have more control, and I feel like it’s spinning a little bit more,” explained the now three-time winner of the Dunhill Links Championship.
“I am very comfortable using the ball. It does what I need. That’s a big part of what we do.
“Titleist has been the best golf ball for a long time, I grew up wanting to play that ball. It seems natural to me that that should be the ball I use.”
Last week in Scotland Hatton led the field in Strokes Gained: Approach (+1.85 round), hitting 85% of greens in regulation (8th) and 67% of fairways (16th).
At this year’s Open, 104 players on the field used Titleist balls – 60 with the Pro V1 and 44 with the Pro V1x.
