Short stories: A personal tragedy has ruled out Pakistan captain Fatima Sana’s chances of playing on Friday. On her way to Karachi, Muneeba Ali is expected to participate. Diana Baig – if she is fit to play – can replace her. But Sana’s shoes will be tough to fill as he is Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker so far and his strike rate of 153.57 is the highest in the team. Although the batsmen are determined to be aggressive, they have put together a total of 116 and 105 for 8 and will have to go through the paces to challenge Australia.

Australia represent their winning streak and are currently on a hot streak of 13 consecutive victories in the T20 World Cup since 2020. They have defeated Pakistan 13 times in T20Is and have never lost a single match. Another win would guarantee their place in the semi-finals. Dubai would be a welcome change from the Australian environment, after playing both of their matches in Sharjah where the pitch and away pitch were slow. Grace Harris, who replaced Darcie Brown against New Zealand, may have to open the pacer as Australia bat in depth.

Player to watch: Nida Dar is the only Pakistan to score past 20 in both matches of this tournament. He has the potential to settle at No. 5. He has bowled just under five overs and is at 4.55 but is yet to take a wicket, something he would like to change against Australia. Beth Mooney’s forty in both matches in Sharjah sent Australia home in a narrow chase and set the stage for the country’s highest total so far in the tournament. A friendly pitch in Dubai will add to the equation and increase his boundary count if he gets another start.
