Ruturaj Gaikwad may lead India A on the tour of Australia
Matches against Australia A may provide match practice, or serve as auditions, for several back-row players who may be selected for the Test squad. Devdutt Padikkal, B Indrajith and Ricky Bhui are set to be the middle-order batsmen in the India A team; Abishek Porel and Ishan Kishan wicket-keepers; Nitish Kumar Reddy, Tanush Kotian and Manav Suthar around; and fast bowlers Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, Khaleel Ahmed and Yash Dayal.
After recovering from a hernia, 21-year-old Reddy made his T20I debut for India against Bangladesh earlier this month and is currently a reserve player in India’s Test team for the home series against New Zealand. He is seen by the Indian selectors as a promising prospect who can improve with more experience and exposure.
India A is scheduled to play Australia A in two four-day matches in Mackay from October 31 and Melbourne from November 7. They then play the Indian team in a warm-up match in Perth between November 15 and 17 before the first Test against them. Australia starts on November 22.
