Smith, who again struggled in New South Wales’ first innings. The right-handed batsman managed just 3 runs off 29 balls before being dismissed, adding to his disappointing performance in the match. Known for his strong technique and ability to handle pressure, Smith’s rare failure highlighted Victoria’s successful bowling attack.

New South Wales are struggling in their pursuit

Victoria had the upper hand for most of the match as they posted a respectable total of 272 in their first innings. In reply, New South Wales crumbled under the pressure, managing just 136, giving Victoria a 136 lead. Victoria’s bowlers, however, contributed heavily to the bowling effort, putting New South Wales on the back foot early in the match.

With a commanding lead in the first innings, Victoria came out to bat confidently in their second innings. Despite facing opposition from the New South Wales bowlers, they managed to score 246, setting a target of 382 for New South Wales to chase. The Victorian batting line-up, led by a few key contributions, ensured they were in charge heading into the final two days.

At the end of day 3, New South Wales reached 185 for the loss of 6 wickets, still needing 198 runs to win with only 4 wickets in hand. The sacking of key players including Smith has left them in trouble. With two days to go, the team faces an uphill battle against the Victory bowling attack
