England Golf has announced the appointment of Martha Brass as its new Chairman.

Brass, who previously served four years at the England Golf Board from 2017-2021 as Independent Executive Director, replaces Ian Pattinson, who recently took up the role of captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews.

In assuming this position, Brass becomes the first female Chairperson of the national governing body.

Currently Chief Operating Officer of BBC Studios Productions, Brass is also a non-executive director of the European Tour and Chairman of PGA European Tour Productions.

On his appointment as Chairman of Golf England, he said: “I am delighted to be rejoining the Board of Directors of England Golf. I love the work of England Golf – I herald the success of the Respect in Golf movement and initiatives such as iGolf and iPlay, in engaging a wide range of golfers. I am passionate about making gaming accessible and welcoming to people of all backgrounds, ages and abilities.

“I look forward to working with the board, senior leadership team and all regional stakeholders to take the game of golf forward in England.”

Brass is a member of Guildford Golf Club in Surrey, where she was lady captain and board member in 2020 and 2021. He is also a member of the Eagles Mere Country Club in his native Pennsylvania.
