Cobra bills the new King Tec irons as “premier grade irons” and, like the rest of the family, the irons are built around the new Forged PWRSHELL face area with HOT Face Variable Thickness Geometry. That means the clubface is thinner again it is powerful, which helps to produce a high speed of the ball.

All three new models also use a five-step molding process, which the company says helps improve feel and allows for precise molding.

With the King Tec, the molding has been improved from the previous generation to shorten the length of the blade, soften the topline and create what the company calls a “sharp toe.” The pitching wedge in the set also sports a flat bottom line and a straight leading edge.

The hollow part of the clubheads is filled with advanced foam microspheres to dampen vibrations and improve sound.

The King Tec 4- by using 7-irons also has a tungsten weight of 20g at the bottom of the heel to stabilize the clubhead through impact by increasing its resistance to twisting. The 8 iron through the gap wedge has no tungsten to help lower ball flight.

The King Tec-X and King Tec-X One Length are targeted as game improvement instruments as they have a larger profile than the King Tec.

Compared to the previous generation, the new King Tec-X models have a rounder and smoother upper line while having a reduced apparent offset, which means the club looks like it has less offset than it actually is – a look that many players like.

Like the King Tec models, the King Tec-X models are also built around a PWRSHELL face insert with HOT Face Variable Thickness Geometry, but the King Tec-X incorporates soft and lightweight foam microspheres into the hollow clubhead for improved feeling.
