Australian News – David Warner’s leadership ban dismissed by Cricket Australia

The CA released the findings of a review by the Ethics Commission on Friday in which a three-person panel unanimously ruled that Warner had met the necessary requirements for the ban to be lifted following changes to the code of conduct in 2022.

“In its decision, the panel noted his respectful and remorseful tone [Warner’s] responses, and content impressed the Review Panel and led to the same opinion that he was sincere and honest in accepting responsibility for his conduct and in his statement that he was deeply remorseful for his conduct,” the CA statement said.

“The team also considered the indicators that ‘the contribution Mr. Warner has made, and may have in the future, to the development of young cricketers in Australia if they are given the opportunity to be led by Mr. Warner, his continued important role in promoting interest in cricket in particular with the South Asian community in Australia and in general’.”

It had been a long time since Warner was tired of not being able to lead any team in Australia and Steven Smith, who was also banned for a year due to involvement in crimes, has returned to captain both Australian Tests. and ODI team and remains the current vice-captain.

Warner has been allowed to captain teams around the world since his ban, leading Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals in the IPL.

The six-year process has also frustrated Warner, who had hoped to get a chance to captain Australia’s T20 side towards the end of his international career, before stepping down altogether following the T20 World Cup in June.

CA chief executive Nick Hockley said he was pleased Warner’s ban had been overturned.

“In 2022 we revised the Code of Conduct to ensure there is a fair and robust process for all players and player support staff to be reviewed for long-term sanctions,” Hockley said.

“I am pleased that David has elected to have his sentence reviewed and that he will be eligible to take up leadership roles in Australian Cricket this summer.”
