Pro says this adjustment can lead to a straighter, longer drive
GOLF
I’m not the longest hitter, but I can still rip a solid 250 yards or so on a consistent basis. Is there more to it, though? There is a good chance that my sequence is all off, I get into a bad body position and find myself swinging too hard, watching my ball go. way to the right for a large piece.
This is probably the most common mistake you make, too, assuming you are average or above.
Of course, the main challenge is an open ball face, but it happens because your swing is coming up – meaning the clubhead goes too far in front of the ball as you come through impact.
Although every golfer often wonders how to fix a putt at some point, many times there are many moves involved, rather than one simple solution.
But not today, because Esteban Toledo of PGA Tour Champions is here to share one correction that can lead to shorter serves and longer drives. Check out his simple tip below.
Esteban Toledo helps heal your frustrating piece
In the video above, Toledo begins by highlighting “one of the biggest mistakes” novice golfers make – the aforementioned swing.
“They are making a retreat [or takeaway] it’s very good, but then they get to the top,” he said. “That means they move their right hip [for a right-handed golfer] right, instead of [having it stay behind the clubhead and more towards the inside of the ball].”
After hitting a drive with bad form – which produces a slice – Toledo goes into one simple fix you can use right now to target your shots.
“Instead of reaching the summit, I will deliver.” [the club] inside,” he says. “It’s like holding a tray, where you get up and bring it [trail] the arm closest to your body.”
By keeping the path arm naturally so that it stays close to your center, you will allow the clubhead to fall and maintain the correct swing path, resulting in more center face contact.
While you may not be ready to put in a lot of swing speed just yet, by simply making better toe or heel contact you will produce more straight distances.
