WATCH: Phil Mickelson’s secret to impressive tee shots for intermediate golfers

Phil Mickelson is one of golf’s all-time greats.

He is not only a six-time major champion but also the oldest winner.

He won the Masters three times, the PGA Championship twice, the Open once and was runner-up at the US Open six different times.

In total, he has won 57 worldwide.

At his best he was a sensational golfer.

He attacked from the tee, he attacked from the fairway, he attacked from the trees, he attacked from the rough and he attacked with the putter in his hands.

But his short game may be his biggest asset.

In this video he highlights a secret that most novice golfers simply don’t understand.

“The ball,” Mickelson said, “shouldn’t be between your feet.”

He then repeated this point quite a few times.

“It should never be between your feet,” he said at once.

“Many people have not decided which shot they will shoot.

“If the ball is between the feet, you cannot put your weight forward because you will pass over it.

“If you want to hit it higher you have to raise it to get your weight back.”

After explaining the mistakes Mickelson concludes by saying: “You can’t break the ball between your feet but a lot of times people try to sneak the ball between their feet.”

Okay, what’s the answer?

“So,” Mickelson said. “The most basic chip is that we will go down.

“The ball went off the back foot.

“We can change it but we will change it from the back foot.”

Then he showed.

“My hands are in front,” he explains.

“My weight is moving forward.

“I’ll hit the next one high. It is high and soft.

“I’m going to hit it on the front foot.

“My weight is still forward and my hands are facing forward.

“You see that rise and stop quickly.”

It’s a simple idea and there aren’t many chippers better than Mickelson.
