The Titleist Pro V1x Left Dash Ball and how it helped Paul Waring win

Paul Waring’s victory at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship stands out for many reasons.

The 39-year-old had only won once before, at the 2018 Nordea Masters, and the quality of the field at Yas Links was one of the strongest this season.

He did it with rounds of 64-61-73-66 to finish at 24-under and two shots ahead of Tyrrell Hatton and Rory McIlroy for a share of third.

His round of 19 over the first two days, after being one after two holes, is a new low on the DP World Tour and helps pave the way for him to secure one of the 10 spots on the PGA Tour next season.

On Friday Waring hit the ‘best shot of his life’ to set up a closing birdie after putting it in trouble and then rolled in a 40-footer on the 71st hole to edge out countryman Hatton.

He would eventually hit a driver and a fairway wood into the green before adding a final birdie for victory.

He finished second in Strokes Gained: Approach (+1.31 round) and third in SG: Tee to Green (+1.70 per round), hitting 86% of his greens in regulation (T13) and finishing T8 in Scrambling (70%).

Waring did all of this using the Titleist Pro V1x Left Dash ball which is lesser known than the Pro V1 and Pro V1x but, needless to say, a premium ball with tour level features.

It first appeared on the tour as an example as players requested the Titleist Pro V1x with more speed and less spin in the long game, all to increase distance.

Pro V1x Left Dash

– The Pro V1x is known for its tighter feel relative to the Pro V1 but is still softer than the Left Dash. It gives a firm feel with a touch of softness around the greens. The Left Dash has the strongest feel of all of Titleist’s premium balls and is designed for players who prefer a solid, solid feel, especially in full swing.

– The Pro V1x is renowned for its high spin, especially on iron shots and wedges, which promotes more control and performance in the short game. It has higher spin than the Pro V1, making it ideal for players who want to shape their shots and land the ball quickly on the green. The Left Dash is slower to spin than the Pro V1x, especially without a driver. So it’s great for players who struggle with a lot of swing or who want a fly in without losing much near the green.

– Both balls have a high launch but the Left Dash has a slightly lower trajectory compared to the regular Pro V1x. Combined with the low spin Left Dash creates that stinging flight we would see coming off the closing hole of the Waring down Yas Links.

– The Pro V1x and Pro V1 both excel in distance but the Left Dash is designed to increase distance even more, especially for players with high swing speeds. On Titleist’s football charts Left Dash is the lowest of the two
the driver and irons spin so if you tend to swing the ball a lot off the tee you might want to try the Left Dash.

In summary Left Dash is perfect for players who want high flight and spin control to help with extra distance and consistency.

Both are incredibly fast and designed to be low spin on full swing shots compared to the Pro V1 and Pro V1x.

This reduction in spin can help in the wind, help you drive forward, and help you if you tend to have good spinny on your shots or in the long game.

You may notice a bit more clicking sound around the green and putts but it still works with short game control and spin.
