Reaves was assessed a game penalty for an illegal check at 2:38 of the second half of the game against the Oilers on Saturday, Nov. 16, and after that he was removed from the game. The nurse left the game after the hit and never returned.
The Oilers have not provided an update on Nesi’s status since it was first announced that he would miss the remainder of the game due to an injury.
According to the NHL’s Department of Player Safety, Reaves will forfeit $35,156.25 in salary during the temporary suspension with money going to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
This is the fourth suspension of Reaves’ career, and the third related to a dangerous track. He was last suspended from the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs as a member of the Vegas Golden Knights after kneeling in the neck of Colorado Avalanche defenseman Ryan Graves, resulting in a two-game suspension. His two previous suspensions occurred in 2020 and 2016. In addition, the striker was fined three times.
This was the third suspension of the 2024-25 NHL season, and the second in the month of November after Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Jeannot was suspended three games for an illegal check to the head of Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser.
