Here’s what to do with the zero torque putter craze
You may be wondering, with all Tour players using “zero torque” putters and OEMs putting new models on the market in droves, is a zero-torque putter right for you?
Last month, Odyssey and Bettinardi unveiled new zero torque putter models while LAB Golf added to its stable of “low torque” putters with the release of the OZ.1.
Zero-torque putters first entered the PGA Tour with Adam Scott and Lucas Glover playing the LAB Golf Mezz.1 putters and Justin Rose using the Axis1 a few years ago.
While both products have been on the market for more than five years, other manufacturers are adopting this trend. The zero torque design revolves around placing the center of gravity (CG) of the putter directly below the axis of the shaft, thus keeping the putter square on all sides. This results in a balanced putter with the toe pointing up, rather than down (toe-hang), or parallel to the ground (face-balanced).

Back to the original question; Is this something that can help all golfers? It certainly doesn’t mean GOLF’s Fully Equipped hosts, Wadeh Maroun and Kris McCormack.
“Zero torque, I think, will be good for a lot of people,” Maroun said. “And I think zero torque won’t work for most people.”
McCormack agreed, calling it a “love it or hate it kind of thing.”
“Look, the address, it’s really strange to look at,” Maroun continued. “So I think about myself, when I look at something like a zero torque putter, and spend a lot of time with it. [CEO] Sam [Hahn] at LAB and I love what LAB does, and I love Sam, and I’ve tried playing a few LAB putters, but as you go through different things and you see what happens, and you see people who actually do it. very well and successful with it, they are a lot of rockers. They will go square to square, while I accelerate with the ball.
“What I’ve noticed is because I speed up the ball, I close the face quickly with a zero torque putter, and it really doesn’t work well for me.”

This concept is by no means new to golf, and McCormack, in his prime, often had questions about how zero torque putters differed.” I mean, the way I’ve had it over the years is if something is that different, there’s less time before every other manufacturer starts copying the design and making a version,” he said.
Now it seems that is exactly what is happening.
