NHL Trade: Predators Trade Philip Tomasino to Penguins
The Nashville Predators traded forward Philip Tomasino to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 2027 fourth-round pick that previously belonged to the New York Rangers.
The 23-year-old Tomasino has a cap hit of $825,000 and will be an RFA at the end of the season.
Thoughts from the media
Michael Gallagher: “Has any NHL team thrown and missed more first-round draft picks than the Nashville Predators have over the last decade and a half? I don’t think there is
’20 Yaroslav Askarov: sold after 3 GP
’19 Philip Tomasino: traded after 159 GP
’17 Eeli Tolvanen: discontinued after 135 GP
’16 Dante Fabbro: retired after 315 GP
’14 Kevin Fiala: traded after 204 GP
’13 Seth Jones: traded after 199 GP
’10 Austin Watson: sold after 306 GP”
Michael Gallagher: “And while we’re at it, let’s take a look at their wealth of recent second-round gems
Egor Afanasyev (traded, now in KHL)
Sam Girard (traded)
Yakov Trenin (sold)
Vladislav Kamenev (for sale)
Magnus Hellberg (trade)
Miika Salomaki (for sale)
Pontus Aberg (for sale)
Grant Mismash (commercial)”
Emma Lingan: “IMO, the real winner of this job is Tomasino himself. The writing was on his wall with the Predators. He will get more playing time in Pittsburgh, which will be good for his development. It seems like a better fit. “
Robby Stanley: “The writing has been on the wall here at Tomasino for almost two years and includes a team of two coaches and two managers. I am zero percent surprised that he was traded. He has talked about the program about how that was a possible outcome.”
Philip Tomasino, acquired by PIT, is a young forward who plays all three forward positions. Produced at a decent clip before this season but struggled to find a place in Nashville. It was running forward as hoped but the pace of the foot was slowing down. #LetsGoPens pic.twitter.com/9yK3Yqq1vy
