Zadorov Fined and Soucy Suspended for Hits on McDavid – Hockey Writers – NHL News
The NHL issued the following decisions related to the incident at the end of Game 3 between the Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers.
Canucks defenseman Nikita Zadorov has been fined a whopping $5,000 by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety for checking on Connor McDavid.
The Canucks will also be down a man in Game 4. Canucks defenseman Carson Soucy was suspended for Game 4 – again for looking at McDavid. Soucy will be eligible to return for Game 5 on Thursday.
This incident happened after the conclusion of the 3rd game where the Canucks won the game 4-3.
Zadorov hit a check on McDavid from behind and Soucy’s was headed for the head. The NHL said it accepted Soucy’s contention that Zadorov’s cross from behind contributed to McDavid’s substitution resulting in a check to the head. However, the NHL added in its player safety video of the suspension that this cross-check warranted further disciplinary action because it happened well after the end of the game and was “not a hockey game.”
According to the NHL Department of Player Safety, Soucy has been suspended and fined once in his 290 NHL games. They cited Soucy as having “no relevant record” of disciplinary actions in his career.
The Canucks take a 2-1 lead in the second round series. Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday in Edmonton at 9:30 pm EDT and 6:30 pm PDT.
