Arsenal and Bayern Munich have joined Barcelona in the race to sign Xavi Simons

Arsenal and Bayern Munich have reportedly shown interest in Xavi Simons, who has joined Barcelona in the race to sign him this summer.

21-year-old Simons has appeared on the shortlist of many of Europe’s top clubs this summer after impressing on loan at RB Leipzig. He has registered nine goals and 13 assists in all competitions during his time with the Bundesliga club, and it now looks like he has played his last game for Leipzig due to a suspension he is due to serve on the final weekend of the 2023/24 season.

The young star is currently owned by Paris Saint-Germain, and the club first bought the player in 2019 from Barcelona. Since then, however, Simons has played just 11 times in all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit, until he was sold to PSV Eindhoven in 2022 – then bought by PSG again when they exercised a buy-back clause in 2023.

Now, the Netherlands star may have to pack his bags again after appearing on the radars of both Arsenal and Bayern, according to reports. Sports.

Not only teams have seen the boy’s talent, Barcelona are very keen to bring Simons to Spain.

A move to Barca will see Simons return to his boyhood club, after spending nine years in the Catalan youth system. However, PSG want more than €60m (£52m) to part with the defender – a sum Barca will be unable to match.

Arsenal, however, could look to sign Simons, as they look to bring more goalscoring potential to the Emirates. The attacking midfielder excels on the right, so he could provide competition for current Gunners star Bukayo Saka.

His versatility means he can also play on the left side, providing another option when teammates are injured.

Reports say that RB Leipzig have already had a bid for Simons rejected, and it is believed that he will prioritize a move to Barcelona in La Liga. However, if an offer arrives, PSG will be open to sending him elsewhere.
