Man City and Liverpool have been named as clubs interested in the Newcastle United star

Manchester City and Liverpool have been named as clubs “really interested” in Newcastle United midfielder Anthony Gordon.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the two Premier League giants are interested in the England player who has had a successful season with the Magpies.

A number of Newcastle United players have attracted interest from clubs this summer with Alexander Isak impressing for Arsenal and Bruno Guimaraes on loan from Man City, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

Gordon has made huge strides in the North East since his move from Everton.

Following an impressive performance for the Magpies, the England midfielder has been called up to play for Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Now, less than a year after signing a contract with Newcastle, he is being linked with another.

During his recent Q&A session with The Athletic, reliable David Ornstein said Man City value Gordon’s abilities.

“Liverpool, like Manchester City and many other clubs, really like (Anthony) Gordon,” Ornstein said when asked about the Newcastle star.

Former Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon is wanted by Man City and Liverpool.

He added: “But they (Liverpool) are not expected to chase this midfielder because Newcastle are not willing to let him go and, even if that situation were to change, the potential amount of money to do business would be huge.

“I’m sure Gordon is still staying at Newcastle this summer.”

Gordon has joined the ranks of the Everton academy and a move to Liverpool could prove highly controversial for the former Everton fans’ favourite.

He may wish to go to Man City as he will have the opportunity to play with the best players in the world and challenge for trophies.

Gordon needs to stay at Newcastle United

However, at this stage of his career, he needs to stay at Newcastle and continue his development away from the limelight of the big clubs.

His development under Eddie Howe has been good and he needs to continue that before taking the next step in his career.

He is currently on the right track and getting better as he shows maturity in his game at such a young age.
