Mikel Arteta explains why he is ‘very hopeful’ Arsenal will win the Premier League title

Mikel Arteta has admitted that he hopes his Arsenal side will secure the Premier League title on Sunday’s final day.

Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Tottenham earlier this week lifted them to the top and gave them a two-point lead over Arteta’s Gunners going into their final games of the season.

Arsenal now need a win against Everton and hope Pep Guardiola’s side will either lose or draw at the London Stadium to have a chance of being crowned champions.

Although such a result would come as a huge shock, Arteta told his pre-match press conference that he continues to believe in his pursuit of the Premier League title.

“I have high hopes for a good result,” he emphasized. “It’s been a very big week for many of us. Now is the most important time. I’m so excited, I can’t wait for Sunday.

“We have to do our job. Everton is in a really good time, we have to show again that we can be better than the enemy and we wish for the best, so that West Ham can have a good game, help us achieve our dreams.

“We are in the last day of the season playing for the Premier League Cup, which has never been at the Emirates since it was built 20 years ago. We have to do our job and see what happens.”

Two Premier League trophies will be played on Sunday, with one sent to both City and Arsenal to ensure that whichever team emerges victorious will have something to lift.

However, league chief executive Richard Masters is understood to be watching Arsenal and will therefore not be involved in any City events.

Despite sitting at the bottom of the table, Everton are unlikely to be an easy opponent for Arsenal. Under the leadership of Sean Dyche, the Toffees are currently in excellent form, unbeaten in the league since mid-April when they were beaten 6-0 by Chelsea.
