Friedman: “In terms of the roster, it’s my opinion that the two most important players in terms of long-term deals will be (Seth) Jarvis and one name you didn’t mention.
Jacob Slavin is about to enter the final year of his contract and I wonder if they are willing to extend him. Me, they see him as a big piece there and it wouldn’t surprise me if they crossed the line a little bit on Slavin.
Marek: “Here’s the thing about Slavin. He is 30 years old.
Friedman: “Yes.”
Marek: “He is among the best when it comes to defenders. You know how I feel about Jacob. The way we all feel about Jaccob Slavin.”
Friedman: “Yes.”
Marek: “How do they feel about players in their 30s?
Friedman: “They usually don’t like it. Don’t forget Slavin’s last deal, even though it cost a lot of money, was very valuable to the team. So I’m curious what we’re looking at here. But I’ve had a few people say to me, don’t be surprised if Slavin is the focal point there.
Necas, Necas I have believed for a long time…”
Marek: “Seth Jarvis.
Friedman: “That one, probably won’t work there. I just don’t think they will do what (Martin) Necas wants to do.
Jarvis, I think you are very important. They will have to do something there.
Marek: “Yeah, this was a real breakout year for Seth Jarvis.”
Friedman: “Yes.”
Friedman: “Offensively and defensively as well. Now I know, sometimes what you do defensively is overshadowed when you’re playing, when you’re the best player, the Carolina Hurricanes are overshadowed by Jordan Staal, but defensively this guy has been great this year as well. And he looks a lot, and plays a lot like your typical, stereotypical if you like Carolina Hurricanes player.
