Kyle Walker is ‘sad’ not to have Rashford and Henderson in the England squad

Kyle Walker admits he is ‘disappointed’ that Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson have been left out of England’s Euro 2024 squad.

The Man City man, who turns 34 next week, however backed Gareth Southgate’s view that it was ‘the best thing in the world.’

Southgate’s provisional 33-man squad for the tournament in Germany includes a dozen players who have won two games or less, with injury concerns looming large after the Premier League season ended.

Walker is one of only five players in the club to have won more than 50 games – Jordan Pickford, Harry Maguire, John Stones and Harry Kane are the others.

Walker told Sky Sports: “If a player thinks it’s the right team to pick, I have full faith and trust in what he’s doing. He was so cute from the minute he walked in the door.

“Obviously when you’ve shared such good times with people like Marcus and Hendo and you’re traveling together you feel sad that they won’t be there.

“But the manager thinks that’s the best thing in the country and I’m totally behind and fully support him in that.”

The England squad will have to be reduced to 26 on June 7.
