Howe’s inexperienced side suffered in Melbourne
Newcastle United’s controversial post-season trip to Australia ended in disgrace as Eddie Howe’s young side were hammered 8-0 by the A-League All Stars.
Newcastle and Tottenham have come under fire for planning to play a friendly in Melbourne on Wednesday three days after the Premier League season ended at the weekend.
Newcastle have extended their stay Down Under to meet a selection of the best players in Australia’s domestic league but may now reverse that decision after they were separated at Marvel Stadium.
Howe chose to give the youth of this team a chance to shine but it was not the same as the experienced players.
The All Stars led 3-0 at the break with goals from Ben Old, Nicolas Milanovic and Adam Taggart.
The onslaught continued after the break when Apostolos Stamatelopoulos grabbed a brace before Jake Hollman, Jordan Courtney-Perkins and Bozhidar Kraev completed the scoring.
