Manchester United to sack Ten Hag

Manchester United are planning to sack Erik ten Hag regardless of the outcome of tomorrow’s FA Cup final against Manchester City, according to The Guardian.

The newspaper says a ‘well-placed source’ says Ten Hag will be sacked after the Wembley game which will come at the end of a disappointing season for the club.

United’s only way into Europe is to beat City, and deny Pep Guardiola’s men a back-to-back domestic double, after finishing eighth in the Premier League – their lowest league finish since 1990.

Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino and Kieran McKenna are among the favorites to succeed the Ten Hag with talks with three representatives reportedly already taking place.

Ten Hag was appointed United manager in April 2022 on the first day of the 2021-22 season.

After a difficult start, the Dutchman won over United fans with a strong performance which saw them win the EFL Cup – their first major trophy for five years – by beating Newcastle United.

A third-placed finish in the Premier League also supported the belief that the Ten Hag was righting the ship for United after a decade of disappointment following the exit of Sir Alex Ferguson.

But this season has been full of problems for Ten Hag with a series of poor performances which have led to their lowest league finish since 1990. In the reduction, he was not helped by a disabled injury list, especially on defense.

Jim Ratcliffe’s purchase of a minority stake in the club came with control of on-field matters, increasing pressure on the manager.

And it seems that even beating City won’t be enough to save Ten Hag.
