Catterll Calls Out Ryan Garcia, Wants A Championship Bout
Jack Catterall called out Ryan Garcia, challenging the superstar to fight in any weight class.
Catterl (29-1, 13 KOs) is coming off a twelve-round unanimous decision against former light welterweight champion Josh Taylor in their rematch last Saturday night in Leeds, England.
Catterall’s Style: An Obstacle to Popularity
I have to say that there is no chance of Catterll fighting Ryan Garcia because he is boring. Shakur-esque a fighting style of non-stop movement, grappling, and grappling. Catteral is like a poor man’s version of Shakur Stevenson.
That style doesn’t resonate with US fans, and I don’t think it does anything with UK fans. You could argue that the only reason anyone is making a big deal about Catterall right now is that Eddie Hearn is promoting him, and has been talking about him early on.
The 28-year-old Catteral is now trying to revive the game, he wants to get the biggest fight against Ryan Garcia or one of the world champions at 140. distant future.
Catteral’s Obstacles: The Highest Mountain
Catterll has these things working against him against Ryan Garcia or any of the top 140 boxers:
- The first boring security style: Catterll’s grappling, overhandling, and boring movement style prevent him from being a highly sought after opponent for any popular fighter.
- Lack of name recognition: Americans don’t know who Catterall is, and his fighting style is a carbon copy of Shakur Stevenson.
- Not popular in the US: Catterll will not be popular in the US because he is fighting the wrong opponents. His last two fights came against Josh Taylor and Jorge Linares. Those guys are off the map for American fans.
Despite not having the top ranks or top-flight light welterweight wins, Catteral wants a shot at WBO champion Teofimo Lopez next. That war is not happening. There is absolutely NO chance that Top Rank promoted Teofimo will give Catteral the title in a voluntary defense.
If he wants a shot at the title, he will have to beat some of the killers at 140, starting with Jamaine Ortiz and Elvis Rodriguez. I don’t see Catterall beating either of those guys. His fuel tank is very limited, he can’t pierce, and he’s just a clincher/jabber. That won’t work against those talents.
“Whatever weight Garcia feels good at, I’m going to beat him,” Catterll said on talkSport about wanting to fight Ryan Garcia.
I would like to fight [Teofimo] Lopez. That’s a big fight, the WBO world title. Any champion,” said Jack Catterall speaking to talkSport Boxing about who he wants to fight next after his victory over Josh Taylor last Saturday.
“My goal and desire right now is to be world champion,” said Catterall when asked about his thoughts on the trilogy match with Taylor.
“If that’s what’s on the table and that’s what the fans want, I’ll entertain,” Catterall said of the trilogy with Taylor.
Clash with promoter Bob Arum
“That was disrespectful,” Catterall said on TalkSport Boxing about promoter Bob Arum grabbing the microphone and getting into a frenzy after his victory over Taylor, talking about multiple judges and saying he would never bring another American fight. in the UK.
Arum is promoting Teofimo, and I don’t think he’ll want anything to do with a fight with Catteral after what he saw last Saturday night with the way the judges scored the fight.
