Daniel Dubois, Zhilei Zhang and Joseph Parker are “frontrunners” to be Anthony Joshua’s next opponent.

Anthony Joshua’s opponent could be announced at a press conference on Tuesday, June 26.

His promoter Eddie Hearn spoke to him Debate News yesterday at the Johnny Fisher-Alen Babic launch press conference and revealed that ‘AJ’s next opponent may come from one of three names.

“I have seen [Zhilei] Zhang listed, [Joseph] Parker on the list, [Daniel] “Obviously, Dubois is on the list,” Hearn said.

“AJ’s goal is to take the heavyweight title again, so if there is an opportunity to fight for the IBF title, Daniel Dubois will definitely be at the forefront of that fight.”

Dubois put himself in a healthy spot last weekend with his win over undefeated Filip Hrgovic. The Croat went into the fight with confidence but knew that if he lost he would lose his mandatory IBF status. Dubois now has to wait and see what the governing body chooses to do with Oleksandr Usyk’s replacement. The vacant heavyweight champion has requested that his title be on the line in his rematch with Tyson Fury on December 21. If that is not granted, ‘Dynamite’ Dubois will fight for the vacant title or be promoted from interim champion to full champion.

Despite not being willing to reduce it to a “list” of names, Hearn confirmed that Dubois, Zhang and Parker are “definitely frontrunners.”

“Daniel is becoming a dangerous fighter,” added Hearn after watching the Brit beat his man Hrgovic in the Queensberry vs. Matchroom 5 vs. 5 event.

“That was a big win, he took a big shot, kept coming and really broke his will. I know he’s been suspended for cuts but he looked like he was going to be banned.”

Zhang brought himself back into the heavyweight picture with his victory over Deontay Wilder when Joseph Parker held cartwheels over both men. The rejuvenated New Zealander has fought Joshua before, however, and has made noise in recent months about a second attempt to beat the former unification champion to whom he lost on points in March 2018.
