In a true passing of the lamp style, it has been confirmed that ESPN has hired longtime NBA insider Shams Charania to replace the beloved Adrian Wojnarowski.
Woj rocked the basketball world when he announced his retirement from ESPN after 34 seasons in the NBA.
Now, his former rival Shams has joined the network, as a clear part of his former mentor, as the former apir works as a contributor at Yahoo Sports.
Woj shared some encouraging advice for Shams.
“Shams texted me after I announced my retirement,” Wojnarowski said The Jim Rome Show. “And you know what? I told him what I’m going to say today that I hope he has a fulfilling and rewarding career like I do. And I certainly wish him that. And he’s right about the amazing group of colleagues he’s going to have at ESPN, the best, most amazing reporters on the air.
“And, you know, for me, that’s always been the best part of working at ESPN, it’s been the colleagues who lift you up, you’re the best. And that was true in the NBA… So, wish you the best. Also, he has a great team around him, at ESPN. “
Charania himself broke the news on his X page, writing, “I am honored to join ESPN as the company’s Chief NBA Officer. I can’t wait to be part of an amazing team of colleagues at ESPN and serve sports audiences around the world. “

To join ESPN, Charania is leaving The Athletic and FanDuel TV to take this opportunity, but apparently his contract with the outlet was expiring, according to the New York Post.
Details of Shams’ contract have not been disclosed, but Woj made $20 million per store when he retired.
