Under Rule 14.2b, only the player, the player’s partner (if any) or the person who initially lifted or moved the ball is allowed to change it, so, unless that last condition is the case, the player incurs one penalty if his looper makes a honors.

First, you should openly tell him when the play is over by doing so.

And, yes, Rule 10.3b(1) specifies the actions a caddy is always allowed to take, and such a correction is indeed one such action.

Conversely, accusing your caddy of reading poorly is an action players are always allowed to take under the unwritten rules of golf, yet the Rules Guy finds this beneath contempt.
