AHL to mandate visor-resistant helmets for all players, officials | TheAHL.com

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … President and CEO of the American Hockey League Scott Howson announced today that the AHL Board of Governors has unanimously approved the mandatory use of cut-resistant neck protection by all of its players and on-ice officials, beginning in the upcoming 2024-25 season.

All AHL skaters, referees and linesmen, regardless of age or experience, will be required to wear an approved cut neck protector starting this fall. Cut-off socks and hand sleeves were previously mandated for AHL players and officials beginning in the 2023-24 season.

Operating since 1936, the AHL serves as the top development league for all 32 teams in the National Hockey League. About 90 percent of today’s NHL players graduated from the American Hockey League, and more than 130 honorary members of the Hockey Hall of Fame spent time in the AHL during their careers.
