The 2024 Presidents Cup resulted in an important victory for the US, but that doesn’t mean the event was without drama. Not only was there a lot of games coming up on the phone, but there was also a lot of trash talk.

One such incident occurred in the first session of the event as Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley met Tom Kim and Sungaje Im.

After making a long birdie putt on the 7th hole, Kim celebrated in colorful fashion, complete with double fist pumps, saying “Come on!” and “Let’s go!” After a while, Scheffler matched the bird – and made a sweet celebration of his own.

“If we were at home, I would have done the same thing,” Scheffler said in this week’s episode of Subpar GOLF. “It was one of those deals that was fun. If it wasn’t for my friend, I wouldn’t have done anything or reacted. It just so happened that it was my friend over there … At the end of the day it’s all good.”

The week’s game did not end there. As the event progressed, there were a number of other incidents, including an altercation between Scheffler’s caddy and a fan; Kim accused the Americans of using inappropriate language against him.

But in the team’s most emotionally charged event, Scheffler said a mild temperature should be expected.

“I think there was more competition this week than last year, but I think that was good for the event,” Scheffler said. “It was an interesting place to play golf. They were saying something to us when we were playing, but that’s what you get at an away team event. That’s what people do … it’s a lot of fun.”
