Ambulance Chasers: Isiah Kiner-Wawa Off My List

Welcome back to another week of Ambulance Chasers in Razzball!

I hope your fingers are perfect after the holiday break.

I’ll tell you what’s wrong: the groins! muscle! elbows! wrists! A mix of body parts this week is Chasers Ambulance.

Let’s jump in.

Significant Injury

AL East

Isiah Kiner-Falefa (2B/3B/SS/OF), knee: Well folks, THE GRAVY COURSE IS OVER. After a solid month of giving Isiah Kiner-Falefa the unexpected answer to your injury woes, Kiner-Falefa sprained his left knee. Heading into his IL position, he leads the Blue Jays in WAR. Kiner-Falefa shared that she hopes to return in early or mid-August.

Leo Jimenez was brought up to replace Kiner-Falefa and make his MLB debut. In his 181 AB in MiLB, Jimenez hit 7 HR and 23 RBI. His OPS is .847.

Paul DeJong is an option here. Sometimes you forget what an inning is, but in his last 21 AB, he has 2 HRs and 6 RBIs with a slash line of .286/.318/.571.

In other news, I feel sad when I look at this tweet.

Royce Lewis (3B, MIN), adductor: I just read the article “Royce Lewis says latest injury ‘not as bad’ as past injuries”, both liberating and worrying. Lewis revisits IL with grade 1 right adductor strain. It may seem presumptuous to name him King of the Year Of the upper leg injury, but I’m not over it. Lewis shared that the cause of his injury may be related to the compensation of his previous injury. The bad news is, Lewis will be out until the All-Star Break.

Meanwhile, Brooks Lee is replacing Royce. Lee only had 6 ABs at press time, but had 2 RBIs. So, while I don’t make screaming compromises, I’m sometimes a loon about backup power.

Former Twin Donovan Solano could be another option here. Salano is on a hitting streak with 9 H in his last 23 ABs and 3 RBIs.

Jordan Romano (RP, TOR), elbow: In less news but still worthy of criticism, Romano’s status has changed to “questionable for the 2024 season” after requiring arthroscopic elbow surgery to repair his elbow. Romano has had a bit of a roller coaster in terms of his injury recovery progress this season. Romano will not be able to pitch at all for 6 weeks after his surgery.

AL West

Luis Rengifo (2B/3B/SS/OF, LAA), arm: Utilityman Rengifo takes a trip to IL for right wrist swelling. It’s unfortunate as Rengifo has been cooking this season (.315/.358/.442; 127 wRC+). While the x-rays assigned to Rengifo were inconclusive, there was no specific timeline for the recovery at press time.

Keston Hiura was brought in to replace Rengifo in the lineup.

If you need another utility piece to replace Rengifo, Tampa Bay’s Amed Rosario is a possible option. Suits 2B/SS/3B/OF in some leagues. Rosario makes contact with the ball, but may not be good enough in other stats. LA’s Miguel Rojas doesn’t have much utility (2B/SS), but he’s very productive with RBIs.

And let me make my own earlier suggestion of DeJong being invalid (maybe I want it to be).

NL East

Bryce Harper (1B, PHI), hamstring: Harper suffered a low-grade left hamstring strain last Friday. He’s eligible to return on July 9. In a quote that’s all too familiar to anyone who realizes they’re not young, Harper said “I’ve never heard anything like that before,” regarding his hamstring injury.

With the hamstring strain on the low side, Harper shouldn’t be out for too long. So, put your backup and wait for this one. If you’re in a pickle, check out Jon Singleton.

Kyle Schwarber (OF, PHI), groin: The groin/adductor sagas continue as Kyle Schwarber hits IL with that. Like Bryce Harper, Schwarber should be back soon, just sooner than Harper.

NL West

Jordan Montgomery (SP, ARI), knee: The Diamondback SP is hitting the IL with right knee inflammation, and it’s probably a good time for a break since Montgomery has struggled this season with a 6.44 ERA and 4.42 FIP. If you’re still stuck in Montgomery, check out Colin Rea. In his last 12.3 IP, he has a 1.46 ERA with 8.8 K/9 and 1.5 BB/9.
