Ambulance Chasers: Soler Flare – Razzball Fantasy Baseball

Happy Saturdays to you Razzballers!

You’ve probably heard a variety of productivity topics. Things like walking 10 miles in the snow to school or spending $56.23 on a piece of avocado or anything that says BRAT (spoiler: sorry to report it’s not bratwurst). Those are distractions from the divisive issue of fact: Pluto’s status as a planet. Whether you grew up thinking of Pluto as a noun or a relatively small rock, it doesn’t matter.

The important thing is that Jorge Soler’s light has been extinguished due to a hamstring injury. And Jazz Chisholm Jr. has a UCL injury. Our friend Byron Buxton? He is injured again. And it’s our job to figure out how to fix that this week on Razzball Ambulance Chasers, where Pluto is dead.

Significant Injury

AL Central

Byron Buxton (OF, MIN), hip: Blessed Byron Buxton returns to IL with hip swelling (no structural damage found on MRI via Dan Hayes). He is eligible to return on August 23. The Twins reinstated Edouard Julien to the lineup as a result.

If you don’t want to travel too far to find a replacement, it’s a short trip to Buxton’s teammate Matt Wallner, who has 4 HR and 12 RBI in his past 54 AB. On the season, Matt Wallner has an 18 wRC+.

Another option is Kerry Carpenter who recently graduated from IL. The Tigers outfielder is in the hot stage after being activated. He has hit 3 HR in his 12 AB since returning to the lineup.

AL East

Jazz Chisholm Jr. (3B, NYY), elbow: Jazz sustained a sprained UCL (non-throwing arm) while sliding into home plate during a game in the Yankees-White Sox series. Fortunately, the x-rays were negative for any major damage, and Jazz himself thinks he will be back in 10 days (August 23rd). We’ll see about that.

Jazz teammate Oswaldo Cabrera will keep 3B warm for now. In his last 44 AB, he has hit 3 HR and 8 RBI with 1 SB.

AL West

Ronel Blanco (SP, HOU), index finger: Blanco was hit to left by a comebacker off the bat of Brandon Lowe. Luckily the only damage Blanco did was a sore index finger. His status remains in doubt. So, he should return to work soon.

Alex Bregman (OF, HOU), elbow: Bregman is day-to-day with inflammation in his right elbow. The swelling happened and Bregman was laid on in a weird way by MLB’s Brian McTaggart. Athletes! They are like us. Fortunately, the inflammation is not considered serious, and Bregman should be back in action soon.

Oakland’s JJ Bleday is an option if you need Bregman coverage. Bleday is hitting .329/.402/.573 with 4 HR and 13 RBIs in his last 22 AB. Bleday’s BABIP is high here, but the sample size is small.

NL East

AJ Minter (RP, ATL), hip: Minter is suffering from IL hip surgery, which could end the season. You will find a possible replacement in the West Coast Contingent of AJs: AJ Puk. In his last 11.7 IP, Puk is throwing 13.8 K/9 and 1.5 BB/9 with 1 SV and 5 HLD.

Jorge Soler (OF, ATL), hamstring: The Angels are in the Braves’ place this year as Jorge Soler was placed on the Braves’ sick list. Soler is currently day-to-day with a strained hamstring. He is traveling with the team, but it was not clear at press time if he will play this weekend.

Although Soler is day-to-day, the hamstring injury sometimes lingers. David Peralta is an easy option for your roster if you’re down Soler. Peralta has hit 5 HR and 12 RBI in his last 61 AB. The sample size is small, but his BABIP is very high. He will probably go down, but hopefully, Soler won’t go too far! Another option here would be Gavin Lux.
