Amerks’ Appert promoted to Buffalo | TheAHL.com

The Buffalo Sabers have promoted the head coach of the Rochester Americans Seth Appert to the National Hockey League club’s assistant coach, joining the Sabers’ new coaching staff Lindy Ruff.

Appert, 49, has served as the Amerks’ head coach since the 2020-21 season, compiling a 123-94-22-10 record and leading the team to three consecutive Calder Cup Playoff appearances during that span. He guided Rochester to its deepest playoff run in nearly two decades last season, when the Americans advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2004.

“I’m thankful for my four years in Rochester,” Appert said. “I loved being an American. I thank our fans and players and coaches with whom we have been able to create a family atmosphere. Let’s go Amerks!”

Current Sabers players who have improved under Appert’s leadership include the forwards Jack Quinn again JJ Peterka, both named to the AHL All-Rookie Team in 2021-22; he has a goalkeeper Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen; and the protector Mattias Samuelsson. Sabers first round pick Jiri Kulich again Isak Rosénboth AHL All-Stars in 2024, led Rochester this season in goals and points, respectively, and Kulich was named to the AHL’s Top Prospects team in 2022-23.

“Seth should be proud of the culture he’s built in Rochester and the success he’s brought with it,” the Sabers general manager said. Kevin Adams said. “Although his addition to the NHL coaching staff is a loss for Rochester, there is no doubt that he has earned the position. Under his leadership, the Americans have had great results as a team, and he has played a major role in the development of a number of NHL players.
