Arne Slot describes Dominik Szoboszlai’s absence from Man Utd as a conflict

Arne Slot has confirmed that Dominik Szoboszlai was only kept out of the squad during Liverpool’s 3-0 pre-season win over Manchester United as a precautionary measure.

The Reds secured victory over United to complete their tour of the United States as they defeated Arsenal and Real Betis, with new manager Slot making a good first impression after taking over from Jurgen Klopp earlier this summer.

Fabio Carvalho, Curtis Jones and Kostas Tsimikas all scored in the win over Premier League rivals United, but there was no place for Szoboszlai in the matchday squad.

Slot, however, revealed that the Hungarian is not injured and has instead been given time off as other first-team stars face the Red Devils.

“Dominik joined every session and every game,” Slot said before the win. “I think it’s a bit of fatigue and we don’t want to risk it because we’re flying back to Liverpool tonight.

“On Tuesday all the other players have also arrived, so we want to start with all the available players and we didn’t want to take a risk with him today.”

Szoboszlai scored seven goals in 45 appearances in all competitions during his first season on Merseyside, helping the Reds finish third in the Premier League and win the Carabao Cup.

The Slot boss also named where he hopes Liverpool can improve despite recording a big win over United, insisting his side conceded too many chances to their rivals.

Liverpool will play in a friendly before their first game of the season against newly promoted Ipswich Town. The Reds will host La Liga side Sevilla next Sunday at Anfield before moving on to Portman Road the following Saturday.
