Arne Slot used to show Feyenoord team clips for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool

Arne Slot modeled his Feyenoord team on several principles that govern Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, giving an indication of the style of play Reds fans can expect from the Dutchman.

Slot was chosen to succeed Klopp, who left last month after nine years at Anfield.

But, despite his lack of experience outside his native Netherlands, it’s clear how well suited the 45-year-old is to pick up where Klopp left off.

Colorado Rapids midfielder Cole Bassett has spent several months working with Slott in 2022 on loan at Feyenoord and has lifted the lid on just how much of an impact Klopp’s Liverpool have had there.

“[Slot] introduced a few things to me and made me understand football better. I’ve seen the little things done by his teams, and I know what it takes to play at a high level. The funny thing is, he used to show us clips of Liverpool all the time,” Bassett said A mirror.

“Liverpool is the team he used to stress to us that if we want to play at a high level, this is what you have to do. And now he’s finished there, so I think he’s very special.”

Among the clips Feyenoord will receive were players like Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz “running back defensively”, and a message from the coach: “If you want to be at a top club, this is what you have to do…look at what they do, and this is what I expect from you .”

In 2021, Slot told a Dutch publication NOS that he considered the styles of Klopp and Pep Guardiola “good examples … the aim is not to play offensively, but this is the way to win more games.”
