Arsenal are in talks with defender Gabriel Magalhaes over a new contract

After tying Mikel Arteta to a new deal Arsenal are now in talks with one of their top stars over new terms according to reports.

It hasn’t been the busiest of summers at the Emirates with the Gunners making four new additions to their squad in Mikel Merino, Raheem Sterling, Riccardo Calafiori and back-up goalkeeper Neto.

Arteta’s men have made a good start to the season with seven points from their first three games, despite dropping two costly points against Brighton before the international break.

Arsenal are in talks to extend Gabriel’s contract

The Gunners hope the announcement of Arteta’s new deal will give the club a boost when they face Tottenham in north London on Sunday.

Arteta’s new deal sees him locked up at the Emirates until 2027, and Arsenal are believed to be keen to tie down other key players to new deals.

GIVEMESPORT have reported that the club are in talks with defender Gabriel Magalhaes over a new contract, with his current one thought to be worth £100,000 a week.

Gabriel has a contract at the Emirates until 2027.

The report adds that Arsenal remain in open discussions with the Brazilian and are keen to commit him to a long-term future at the Gunners, while GIVEMESPORT add that he is confident of signing.

The Brazilian, who is under contract until 2027, joined Arsenal from Lille 1 in 2020 for an estimated £27m and has made 171 appearances for the Gunners so far.

Gabriel formed a formidable partnership with William Saliba at the heart of Arsenal’s defence, which was the best in the Premier League last season.

Despite increased competition following the arrival of Calafiori, the 26-year-old remains central to Arteta’s plans.

Gabriel has started all three of Arsenal’s league games this season and will again feature in the heart of defense against rivals Tottenham this weekend.
