Austin Reacts to Lakers’ Disappointing Season

Austin Reaves

Austin Reaves says he’s not worried that the Lakers failed to add big pieces during the offseason.

“I like where we are,” Reaves told reporters in the Philippines during a promotional tour this week. “And I think we have what it takes to compete.”

Reaves pointed to the Lakers leading the Denver Nuggets by a huge first-round lead as the source of his hope. However, despite this impressive number, the Lakers lost the series in five games, which Reaves described as something “you can’t even wrap your head around.”

“But there were only a few programs that we didn’t do,” he said. “They killed us but if we [did], we beat them in that series and we go on and have a chance to play Minnesota. So I like where we are.”

During the same press session, Reaves also offered his thoughts on new Lakers coach JJ Redick.

“[Redick] he is a person with a strong firepower,” he said.

“He came to us [at NBA Summer League in Vegas] and it was like ‘I’ve been staring at the whiteboard for three hours trying to figure out how we’re going to do these things.’ So you can just say the intensity he has, the time he will put in.”
