Australian News – Jhye Richardson included in Perth Scorchers’ Top End tour
Richardson is the most prominent part of a Scorchers squad made up mostly of young players from the fringes of the BBL and Western Australian sides as well as some from the WA academy.
“He’s fit and firing now, and he’s looking for game opportunities,” national selector George Bailey said last month. “I think he will get opportunities again in the summer.”
Richardson will be joined by fellow speedster Matt Kelly who also had his season ended early due to injury. Batter Sam Fanning was named captain and Baxter Holt, who moved to Western Australia from New South Wales, was included.
“We see this competition as an opportunity for Jhye and Kells [Matt Kelly] getting touches in a competitive environment,” said standings coach Tim MacDonald. “They didn’t play a lot of cricket last year but they’re a big part of what we do for the Scorchers and WA, so I’m looking forward to seeing them both back in action.”
The Top End competition also includes Northern Territory Strike, Pakistan A, ACT, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars and the Bangladesh High Performance side.
