Australian News – Lance Morris has been sidelined with a quad strain but is hoping for a short layoff

Fast bowler Lance Morris has suffered an injury setback after suffering a quad strain in training although it is hoped the layoff will be temporary with a view to returning before the end of the month.
Morris, who faced South Australia in Sydney in late September as part of his return to action after another winter recovering from back problems, will miss Western Australia’s one-dayer against Queensland on Sunday but is eyeing the October 25 game against Tasmania. WACA in return.

An in-form Morris, who made his international debut against the West Indies last season, will be in contention for a four-day Australia A or Australia ODI squad to be named early next week. He used to play in the Test team last season.

Speaking last month, Morris had hoped to play Sheffield Shield cricket at the start of the season but will now be out of contention against Tasmania from October 20. After that, the next WA Shield match starts against Tasmania on November 1 which will precede Australia A’s opening match against India A and the start of the ODI series against Pakistan.

“It’s frustrating to have to stop for a few months. I’m at that stage in my career with a Cricket Australia contract… it’s a transition from a 12-month cricketer,” he told ESPNcricinfo. “But the main thing is that I stay healthy and I feel stronger than before. Although if I don’t pay attention to it and get on with my life, there is a good chance that I will spend 12 months away.”

Meanwhile, Mahli Beardman is on the verge of his first game this season following a call-up to the Australian team in England last month. Beardman, who has played just one professional match for WA, was not officially included in the touring party as he was brought in as a batsman among the bowlers’ injury list.

The Western Australian team Ashton Turner (captain), Ashton Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Mahli Beardman, Cooper Connolly, Hilton Cartwright, Josh Inglis, Bryce Jackson, Jhye Richardson, D’Arcy Short, Andrew Tye, Sam Whiteman

The Queensland team Marnus Labuschagne (captain), Hugo Burdon, Jack Clayton, Lachlan Hearne, Usman Khawaja, Ben McDermott, Michael Neser, Matt Renshaw, Mark Steketee, Tom Straker, Mitch Swepson, Tom Whitney, Jack Wildermuth
