Barcelona are considering Jadon Sancho’s loan spell

Barcelona are considering a loan move for Manchester United player Jadon Sancho following his six-month spell at Borussia Dortmund, according to Spanish reports.

The 24-year-old spent most of the 2023/24 Bundesliga season with Champions League finalist Dortmund after being banished from United’s squad by manager Erik ten Hag.

Sancho was brought back to his former club in the hope of reviving his career and made an immediate appearance in Germany. But the deal did not include a buyout option, leaving the winger to return to Old Trafford at the end of the deal.

With Ten Hag still in charge of United, Sancho is unlikely to be reintegrated into the club, and recent reports have suggested a £40m asking price has been put in place by clubs interested in agreeing to a permanent transfer.

Spanish publication SPORTS reports that United actually offered Sancho to Barcelona a few months ago, in a proposed transfer deal, but Barcelona were not interested at the time. However, with United not looking to sell any time soon, it is possible that a loan deal could be imminent.

New manager Hansi Flick is said to be keen on Sancho’s skills, although any deal may hinge on Barcelona signing Raphinha this summer. The report adds that sporting director Deco would like to sign Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, while the ideal signing for the board would be Athletic Club winger Nico Williams – who impressed for Spain at Euro 2024.

Dortmund and Juventus have both been taxed by Sancho’s price tag, which could open the way for Barcelona to find a buyer for Raphinha. The Brazilian player revealed that he has no desire to leave the team, but his hand may have been forced by the team’s struggles.

That’s why Barcelona will be interested in taking Sancho, as a loan and a salary cap would be the most economical way to strengthen Flick’s options. The Catalan giants could also look to cash in on Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati, the latter returning to the club after a disappointing season-long loan spell at Brighton & Hove Albion.
