Barcelona are preparing for a whirlwind end to the summer transfer window
Barcelona are still determined to sign a new player before the summer to transfer the window is closing and preparing for a few days of trying to get an agreement over the line, 90 min you understand.
The Catalan giants have made no secret of their desire to sign Athletic Club’s Nico Williams and president Joan Laporta continues to dream of a winger pairing of Williams and Lamine Yamal, but such a move is unlikely and Barcelona have shifted their focus to signing Dani Olmo earlier. this summer when it became clear that the move was not financially feasible.
Sources confirmed that 90 min that Barcelona have not given up hope of signing a new player before Friday’s transfer deadline, but are facing a whirlwind few days trying to finalize a deal.
Barcelona need to raise money before they can finance new signings and, while the sale of the player cannot be ruled out, Laporta is currently looking for commercial opportunities to raise money away from the pitch.
Achieving such a deal in the next few days will be difficult, however, and no new signings can be made if Barcelona can somehow find new funds.
With Williams expected to remain at Athletic Club unless the Premier League side make a late move, Barcelona have been looking at other targets and have discussed their pursuit of Juventus’ Federico Chiesa.
The Italian has been made publicly available for transfer and could be open to joining Barcelona but, as things stand, a deal is unlikely and things will have to change dramatically to make progress. No official offer has been sent to Juventus, who recently met with Liverpool to discuss a move to England’s top flight. A move to Anfield seems a big possibility at this stage with nothing being developed with Barcelona.
Barcelona have also spoken to Bayern Munich about Kingsley Coman, but the Bundesliga outfit have withdrawn a loan offer that includes the option to make a permanent move next summer.
Coman also received a significant offer from Saudi Arabia, further complicating Barcelona’s efforts to raise the funds needed to complete the deal. Al Hilal want his signature and Bayern are happy to sell to the Saudi Pro League champions. The deal now depends on whether Coman is ready to move to Saudi.
As for Barcelona, any new signing will also need to be sold to create the necessary space in the salary budget, and the club is willing to consider all the options available to them before the last days of the summer window.
