Barcelona’s hopes of selling the striker have been hit by injury

Barcelona have confirmed that Ansu Fati has a foot injury that may rule him out pre-season tour of the United States, which may prevent future transfers of the group.

After breaking into the Catalan giants’ first-team squad in the 2019/20 season, the 21-year-old then struggled with injuries over the next two campaigns before making 51 appearances in all competitions in 2022/23.

However, he was sent out on loan to Brighton & Hove Albion last season and managed to make 27 appearances, scoring just four goals.

Fati has since returned to Spain and, despite impressing new manager Hansi Flick in pre-season so far, could be the player Barcelona want to sell in the summer transfer window to improve their dire finances.

SPORTS It was recently reported that La Liga side Sevilla are expecting the winger to be available for transfer after their trip Stateside, but those plans may now be revised following Fati’s injury.

A statement from Barca read: “In training today, first-team player Ansu Fati has injured his foot. He will be treated at the highest level in Barcelona and his return to training will be determined by his recovery time.”

Fati’s future at Barca could be decided by the club’s summer signings. Lamine Yamal has achieved stardom at the age of just 17 by leading Spain to Euro 2024 glory, while fellow international Nico Williams has been widely praised for his move to Catalonia.

Williams has been warned against a move to Barcelona by his current Athletic Club teammate, while Dani Olmo’s release clause at RB Leipzig has recently expired.

Barca also said goodbye to Sergi Roberto and Marcos Alonso following the end of their contracts, while Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo left after the end of their loans.
