Heading to the Pro Box TV Events Center in Plant City, Florida, Kazakh fighter Batyrzhan Jukembayev (23-1) delivered a stunning demolition of veteran Ivan Redkach (24-7-1).
The calculating Soviet style was no match for the aging Ukrainian, who could only try to resist the heavy body blows coming his way. Redkach will be an important stepping stone for Jukembayev, who knocked him out of the competition within five rounds.
After all, Redkach is also happy with the loss of some of the best fighters working in and around the weight class; Regis Prograis (29-2), Danny Garcia (37-3) and Tevin Farmer (33-5-1) to name a few. However, with wins over the likes of Devon Alexander (27-8-1), the California native is no pushover either.
The win now puts Jukembayev at the edge of his competition in the packed 140lb division. With his dangerous and deceptive style, he will be seen as a high-risk, low-reward figure among the elite of the super lightweight division.
With pound-for-pound heavyweight Terence Crawford (40-0) watching, it’s only a matter of time before more eyes turn to the Shu-born fighter. So, what hypothetical matchup can be made for ‘Batyr’ going forward?
Jamaine Ortiz
17-2-1 from Massachusetts will be a big name that will also provide an interesting match for the Soviet-based Jukembayev.
Having held titles at the North American level and also had two fights against the best in the world such as Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3) and Teofimo Lopez (20-1), his profile will be an attractive one for him to strengthen. Jukembayev continues further.
As well as this, Jukembayev’s marauding style will be able to catch ‘The Technician’ and drive the fight, which, given his performance against Lopez, may be necessary.
Gustavo Lemos
Argentina’s Lemos (29-1) came up short against Matchroom USA’s formidable Richardson Hitchins (18-0). ‘El Electro’ is a fighter with a lot of power and tools to tie him up in the ring.
However, having previously lost to Subriel Matias (20-1), Jukembayev is familiar with power punchers and will be able to use his movement to get past the former IBF Latino Super Lightweight title holder.
It would certainly be an interesting fight for the new WBA Continental North American Super Lightweight title.
Richardson Hitchins
By extension, why not contradict Hitchens who is delusional?
After all, his last fight against Lemos inspired little confidence and the boxing world seems to have little faith in the progress of the Brooklyn-born boy.
With a smooth modus operandi and signature success in his resume, such as his victory over Jose Zepeda (37-5), the opportunity to fight the defeated Matias may inspire confidence in the New Yorker, who follows the line take the Puerto Rican; he seems to have little confidence in the take.
Sergey Lipinets
Lipinet (18-3-1) last appeared on the previous Pro Box TV show, defeating Robbie Davies Jr (23-5) in a bloody and brutal fight.
Perhaps, given that both are associated with the Pro Box brand, and since both are from Kazakhstan, this could be an interesting matchup to make; one that highlights the crossroads both men find themselves at.
Besides, it will provide Jukembayev with more experience against the sharp, analytical type of striking in the ‘Samurai’ style.
Dalton Smith
Sheffield boxer Dalton Smith (16-0) will be looking to step up to the world stage, after stopping the fearsome Jose Zepeda last week.
Eddie Hearn and Matchroom, as well as the boxing community at large, have faith in the young ‘Thunder’, who combines a wealth of novice experience with a determination to fight the best. And, given his many knockouts so far, a fighter with more technical experience – and more novice experience – like Jukembayev would be interesting to see play.
Hypothetically, the belt will also have the WBC Silver belt that Dalton currently holds on the line, increasing the chances of the winner moving on to the division’s highest ranking.
