Bayern Munich rejected Federico Chiesa ahead of Liverpool’s signing
Liverpool summer signing Federico Chiesa has been rejected by Bayern Munich ahead of his move to Anfield, according to reports.
The 51-time capped Italian was Liverpool’s only foreign arrival in the summer window, signing from Juventus for just £10m plus add-ons (per BBC Sport).
However, Chiesa’s move to Merseyside is almost certain.
According to BILD reporters Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (via Get Football News Germany), Bayern Munich were offered the chance to sign Chiesa before the Liverpool transfer.
Bayern ended up rejecting Chiesa, but there was further frustration in the market when Xavi Simons and Desire Doue rejected the Bavarians in favor of RB Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain, respectively.
Der Rekordmeister managed to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace to strengthen their attacking options, while Vincent Kompany can also call upon a formidable cast including Harry Kane, Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala, Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry.
Chiesa is still set to play for Liverpool but has been training with Arne Slot’s men, and the 26-year-old is expected to make the squad when the Reds are at Nottingham Forest after the international break.
“We are very excited to bring Federico to Liverpool,” Slot told Liverpoolfc.com of Chiesa’s signing in August.
“I don’t think anyone will need me to tell them about his level because it has been clear for years in team football and international football.
“Federico has really grown up. He brings experience and talent, but at the same time he brings the ability to keep getting better and this is something we are very excited about. “
