BBL News – Colin Munro re-signs with Brisbane Heat until 2026

Brisbane Heat have taken a significant step towards defending their BBL title by re-signing former New Zealand batsman Colin Munro for two more seasons.

Munro, who announced his international retirement earlier this year after missing out on New Zealand’s T20 World Cup squad, has played 428 T20 matches across multiple tournaments and scored 10,961 runs at a career rate of 141.25, with hundreds five years and a half of the 67th century.

The 37-year-old entered his third season with the Heat and is the fourth BBL player to be signed under the new rules which allow each club to sign one international on a multi-year deal ahead of the overseas player programme.

Munro, a former member of the Perth Scorchers’ 2021-22 BBL title-winning side, has played the last two seasons with the Heat and scored 502 runs with 98 not out and 98 not out.

In both seasons he quickly left to join the Desert Vipers in the UAE-based ILT20 competition but his new deal with the Heat will ensure Munro is available for every BBL game, including the finals.

Munro will lead a strong Heat side, alongside Australian Usman Khawaja and Matt Renshaw, and wants to be part of the tournament.

“It was very sad to be away and watch the boys win the title, after being disappointed last season when we were beaten to death in the final,” said Munro.

“It’s a strong team again and I’m looking forward to being a part of what we can build together. There’s always room for improvement and as a team, we should be excited about the new goals we’ll be pursuing this summer.”

The Heat have a new coach next season as Johan Botha has replaced Wade Seccombe.
