BBL News – Tim Paine is on the fast track to head coach of the Adelaide Strikers

Former Australian captain Tim Paine has been appointed as the new head coach of the BBL’s Adelaide Strikers less than two years after ending his professional career.
Paine moved quickly through the training program. Currently working with NT Strike in the Top End T20 series, last season he was assistant to Adam Voges for Australia A and has also worked with the Under 19 team and the women’s team. He has previously spoken of his interest in a BBL role if both men’s coaching careers are broken.

“I am honored and excited for the opportunity to coach such a well-established and well-supported team, and I can’t wait for BBL|14 to begin in December,” said Paine.

“After spending time in Adelaide last year, I believe the Strikers team and the whole of South Australian cricket has great potential and I’m looking forward to being part of taking it forward and winning a few trophies.”

Paine’s international career ended in controversy when he resigned on the eve of the 2021-22 Ashes.

His first big job will be overseeing the BBL draft with Strikers captain Matt Short on September 1. The club has yet to confirm pre-draft signings and will have picks 5, 11, 20 and 29.

Rashid Khan has been playing for the Strikers for a long time and was supposed to return last season before he was ruled out due to injury. He will be a part of MI Cape Town in the SA20 which coincides with the BBL in January and it has not been confirmed whether he will be selected this year.
The batsmen will be boosted by Chris Lynn who will be present for the entire tournament after he signed a one-year contract before leaving early to play in the ILT20.

The current Adelaide Strikers BBL team: James Bazley, Jordan Buckingham, Cameron Boyce, Brendan Doggett, Chris Lynn, Lloyd Pope, Alex Ross, D’Arcy Short, Matt Short, Henry Thornton, Jake Weatherald
