Borussia Dortmund reach the Champions League final with a win over PSG

Borussia Dortmund reached the 2023/24 Champions League final after beating Paris Saint-Germain 1-0, 2-0 on aggregate.
Veteran full-back Mats Hummels’ header early in the second half put the German side in a strong position which they did not relinquish, meaning it will be a showdown between Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid in the final.
Instead, BVB will have the chance to win their second Champions League trophy – their first in 1996/97 – when they face Madrid or Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich on June 1.
Dortmund last reached the final in 2012/13, losing 2-1 at Wembley Stadium, which is the venue for this season’s final.
The German team was given one of the toughest groups but finished ahead of PSG, AC Milan and Newcastle to book a last 16 match against PSV Eindhoven. They were successful against the Dutch team, winning 3-1 on aggregate, then they went back to the quarter-finals and won 5-3 against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.
Niclas Fullkrug’s strike was enough to give Dortmund a first-leg win over PSG and Hummels’ header made the deficit too big for Luis Enrique’s side to overcome.
Edin Terzic’s side, currently fifth in the Bundesliga, now await the result of the second leg between Madrid and Bayern on Wednesday night, their semi-final tied 2-2 after a draw at the Allianz Arena.
